Permission to be Imperfect

{Dress: Express On Sale} {Necklace: Express Similar} {Headband: Forever 21}
{Sunnies: F21} {Bracelets&Watch: Express/Limited}

It has been one of those weeks where my perfectionist side comes out--because you know I am perfect right?! Ha--OK I obviously am far from it, and in my logical brain, I know no one else expects me to be. But let's all be real with each other today--sometimes it is just plains hard. I feel like I need to LOVE my job, have a SPOTLESS home, eat HEALTHY, and take perfect outfit PHOTOS (among many other things, like having a great social life and make God the priority he should be).

So today I am giving myself a break from perfection--it is the unattainable goal. Why strive so hard for something we will never reach?! I am making myself a list of things I am giving myself permission to do.

  1. If I don't have time to do the laundry and fold it TODAY--it will still be there tomorrow. I should count it as a blessing that even if laundry doesn't get done, I will still have clothes to wear tomorrow!
  2. I am new to blogging--I need to give myself a break and know that I will get better over time and my photos will get better with time. This should be a blast (which it is!), and I don't want to put so much pressure on myself that I make it into a chore.
  3. Let go and let God--when it comes to my job and career. He knows where I am, where I am going, and where I need to be.
  4. I simply need to say no when it comes to some social outings--it will make me a better friend and wife when I am not always frazzled and exhausted from being on the run all the time.
  5. Take joy, not dread, into packing lunches and cooking healthy meals--it will make your body and mind feel good.
  6. Also, indulge and have sweets and treats and fast food every once in awhile--you'll live!
  7. Do exercise you enjoy--like yoga! Not everyone is a runner.
  8. Breathe and slow down to enjoy every moment of the life God blessed you with and the people you have the pleasure of spending it with.
What do you need to give yourself permission to do this week? Or maybe what do you need to let go of?

I would love to hear that I am not the only perfectionist out there that sometimes (a lot of times) falls short :)
Have a fabulous weekend

  1. I need to give my permission to sit on the couch and chill - sometimes we just need to be still and recharge our batteries. :) Happy Easter, Tori!

  2. This is so great. I totally agree with the one about blogging! I feel like I could be doing so much more and that I should have better photos and all of these things... but I don't want to lose the fun that I am having with it by putting so much pressure on it! Hope you have a great weekend!

  3. Great post, Tori! I think blogging can really bring out the perfectionist in all of us because it seems like everything is so perfect in other bloggers life. I probably shouldn't say this because it's rather embarrassing, but I have a pile of clean clothes sitting on my guest bedroom bed since last Sunday (my fiance even had to remove them from the dryer). Whatevs! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I totally agree with Shannon!! Especially in the blogging community I feel like you look at everyone's life and think that it's perfect, but trust me I'm sure it's not!! Oh and the laundry thing too... Except mine is still in the dryer haha!!! Obvi you look amazing! Can't get enough of your hair with that headband! So so so cute!!

  5. OMG I love this!!! I always catch myself doing the same thing----as the laundry piles up and the dishwasher needs unloading, I start to freak out that it is never going to get done!!! Sometimes all it takes is my hubs to call me over on the couch to snuggle, and then I realize that everything else can wait! Happy Friday hun!!!!!!

  9. AMEN. Is that your mom who commented? If so, I melted a little bit just now. So wonderful :) Anyway, you wear that headband like perfection. (I am always in awe of ladies who can rock a headband and make it chic!) Since I had surgery last week, my mother in law actually did our laundry for us. Sometimes, it's okay to lean on other people instead of consistently leaning on yourself.

  12. First of all, I love the shirt dress! I looks beautiful on you! Second, I SO needed to read this encouraging list. I can totally relate to being a perfectionist, so all of these were great reminders to just "let go" and chill out a bit. :) I hope you have a great Easter weekend, sweet friend!! xoxo

  13. Lovely outfit! Also, I am really going to push no.2--blogging is incredibly difficult and time consuming and we all need to remember to take a breath and really just enjoy it and not look at numbers!
    Have a beautiful day!

  14. Wow! What I great post and exactly what I needed to hear today! I am also a perfectionist and I needed to be reminded that all things will work out the way HE intended them to be.

    I can totally relate to #2 - I am new to blogging and often get frustrated when my post does not turn out perfectly or I think a topic is stupid. In these times, I need to take a step back to remember the reason I started in the first place.

    Thank you again for the motivation and for reminding me that perfection is not possible!

  15. I just wanted to start with saying that your outfit photos look great! I am definitely feeling #2 - it takes a lot more time than I thought to put together great posts & I need to learn to take a breath if I don't have all my content done when I want it to be. Thanks for the great inspiration!

  18. Wow, seems like you and I could have twin brains!! My husband says I am too much of a perfectionist and become too self-critical when it comes to outfit photos. I've tried to relax more in front of the camera and truly have fun. I think your photos are seriously great - love this dress and how you've styled it!!
    You will grow for sure the more you discover what YOU like in your photos. After all, it's YOUR blog! =) You've got your own individual style which is refreshing to see.
    I agree the laundry WILL be there tomorrow lol! I am not a runner and I don't feel bad about it, I do enjoy walking but I've been thinking of trying yoga myself, seems fun! Have you done it before?
